Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 9, 2026

WilderReady is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

1. Introduction

Welcome to WilderReady (“we”, “our”, or “us”). We operate the website wilderready.com (the “Service”). This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your personal information when you visit our website or interact with our content.

By using WilderReady, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use our Service.

2. Information We Collect

We collect information in two ways: information you provide directly, and information collected automatically when you use our Service.

Information you provide

  • Name and email address when you subscribe to our newsletter
  • Name, email, and message content when you submit our contact form
  • Any information you include when submitting an article pitch or contributor application

Information collected automatically

  • IP address, browser type, operating system, and referring URLs
  • Pages visited, time spent on each page, and links clicked
  • Device identifiers and approximate geographic location (country/city level)
  • Cookie and tracking technology data, including identifiers used by advertising partners such as Google (see Sections 4 and 5)

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Deliver, operate, and improve the WilderReady website and content
  • Send you our newsletter and editorial updates (only if you subscribed)
  • Respond to your messages, inquiries, or contributor applications
  • Analyse site usage so we can create better survival and outdoor content
  • Show advertising through Google AdSense and other ad networks, including personalised ads where your cookie consent choices allow it (see Section 5)
  • Detect and prevent fraud, abuse, or security incidents
  • Comply with legal obligations

We do not sell your personal data to third parties. Where your cookie consent choices permit it, we and our advertising partners — including Google — use cookies and similar technologies for interest-based advertising and to measure ad performance. You can accept, reject, or customise these choices at any time through our cookie consent banner; see Section 5, “Advertising & Google AdSense”, for full details.

4. Cookies & Tracking

We use cookies and similar tracking technologies to understand how visitors interact with our site. Cookies are small text files placed on your device. You can instruct your browser to refuse all cookies or to indicate when a cookie is being sent.

Types of cookies we use

  • Essential cookies: required for the site to function correctly
  • Analytics cookies: help us understand page views, sessions, and content performance (e.g. Google Analytics)
  • Preference cookies: remember your settings such as theme or newsletter dismissal
  • Advertising cookies: used by Google AdSense and other ad networks to serve and measure ads (see Section 5)

When you first visit WilderReady from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, a consent banner lets you accept, reject, or customise non-essential cookies — including analytics and advertising cookies — before they are set. You can opt out of analytics cookies at any time via your browser settings or by using a browser extension such as the Google Analytics Opt-out Add-on.

5. Advertising & Google AdSense

WilderReady displays advertising through Google AdSense and may use other third-party advertising networks. These partners may use cookies, web beacons, and similar technologies to collect information about your visits to this and other websites in order to provide advertisements about goods and services that may interest you.

  • Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies (including the DoubleClick cookie) to serve ads on WilderReady based on your prior visits to this site and other sites on the internet
  • Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to our Service and/or other sites
  • We and Google use these cookies only where your cookie consent choices permit it

You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings, or opt out of a participating vendor's use of cookies for personalised advertising by visiting www.aboutads.info/choices (US) or www.youronlinechoices.eu (EU). Learn more about how Google uses information from sites that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

Visitors from the EEA, UK, and Switzerland are shown a consent message, powered by a Google-certified consent management platform (CMP), before any non-essential or advertising cookies are set. You can change your consent choices at any time using that banner, and no personalised advertising cookies are placed unless you have given consent.

6. Sharing Your Information

We do not sell or rent your personal information. We may share it only in the following limited circumstances:

  • Service providers: trusted third-party tools that help us operate the site (e.g. email delivery, analytics, hosting), bound by data processing agreements
  • Advertising partners: Google AdSense and other ad networks, to deliver and measure advertising on our Service, subject to your cookie consent choices (see Section 5)
  • Legal requirements: if we are required to disclose information to comply with a law, court order, or government request
  • Business transfers: if WilderReady is acquired or merged, your data may transfer as part of that transaction, with prior notice to you
  • With your consent: for any other purpose, only with your explicit agreement

7. Data Retention

We retain your personal data only for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes described in this policy, or as required by law.

  • Newsletter subscriber data is retained until you unsubscribe
  • Contact form submissions are retained for up to 12 months
  • Analytics data is retained in aggregated, anonymised form indefinitely

You may request deletion of your data at any time by contacting us at [email protected].

8. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • Access: request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
  • Rectification: ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete data
  • Erasure: request deletion of your personal data
  • Restriction: ask us to limit how we process your data
  • Portability: receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format
  • Objection: object to processing based on legitimate interests
  • Withdraw consent: withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent

To exercise any of these rights, please email us at [email protected]. We will respond within 30 days.

9. Children's Privacy

WilderReady is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us immediately and we will delete it.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. For significant changes, we will notify newsletter subscribers by email. Your continued use of the Service after any changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
